“Former Vice President Joe Biden was already on record advocating a second round of lockdowns for millions of fed-up Americans. Last night he called on the nation to surrender to the virus by hinting at a national mandate for masks and offering no realistic plan for COVID-impacted communities to reopen their economies and reclaim their lives. As concerned physicians who have treated thousands of patients on the front lines of this pandemic, we consider this approach both destructive and nonscientific. The CDC estimated at least 100,000 excess deaths were indirectly caused by COVID-19 due to locked-down Americans deferring hospital visits and other essential care. Americans are desperate for relief from the COVID-19 crisis, but the physical and mental health toll of the lockdown will grow unless and until we put politics aside and follow the facts.”
