Servicemembers cannot be forced to relinquish informed consent for shot without full FDA approval Los Angeles, CA – America’s Frontline Doctors (AFLDS) today called out members of Congress and military personnel for attempting to mandate the COVID-19 vaccine for all active-duty troops. According to a Thursday report in the Military Times, several House Democrats, led by Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Ca.), sent a letter to President Biden this week urging the commander-in-chief to waive informed consent for the experimental vaccines given emergency use authorization by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The World Medical Association’s Declaration of Helsinki places the principle of informed consent at the center of experimental medical research. Because the FDA has not granted final approval to any of the three COVID vaccines currently available to Americans, military leadership cannot by law mandate the shots “like they do with influenza jabs and other inoculations,” according to the Times. “There is no immediate national security interest compelling President Biden to make these experimental vaccines mandatory for the brave men and women who wear the uniform. Unlike Congressman Panetta and others, we support upholding the law, which protects the medical liberty of active-duty personnel unless and until the Food and Drug Administration gives its full and final approval to the shots. It’s important to remember that the Defense Department’s mandatory vaccination program for anthrax was determined to have been illegal until the vaccine was properly licensed by the FDA, which did not occur for several years,” said AFLDS. “Our troops and their families sacrifice everything to serve their country. Let’s not diminish this service by stripping law-abiding Americans of the Constitutional rights they fight to preserve.” To learn more about civil liberties and vaccines, visit the AFLDS vaccine resources page on their website.
