AMA’s School Ban Commits Medical Malpractice

Physicians’ organization politicizes science to shield Democrat politicians Los Angeles, CA – This week the American Medical Association (AMA) filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court in support of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear’s statewide executive order banning in-person instruction at K-12 public and private schools until at least January 4. The measure provides exemptions for schools outside so-called “red” counties, or those which average 25 or more new daily COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents. Last month, Gov. Beshear recommended that places of worship cancel in-person gatherings and services. Casinos, meanwhile, remain open for business. AMA’s brief follows similar legal interventions on behalf of Democratic state officials, including: New Jersey: The AMA submitted a brief in a US Supreme Court case last week regarding Governor Phil Murphy’s COVID-related limits on religious services that appears to contradict its claims in the KY amicus: notably, the brief states that schools: “…share many of the same risk factors as religious services, their different demographics seem to reduce the risk of virus transmission. … While children can contract COVID-19, they appear not to contract or spread the virus as readily, at least among young children. Studies in the United States and abroad have shown that outbreaks in schools are rare.” ‍New York: The AMA filed a brief with the Supreme Court advocating for Governor Andrew Cuomo’s “Cluster Action Initiative” that treated religious institutions differently from their secular counterparts. The high court ruled that the Cuomo decree was unconstitutional.Simone Gold, MD, JD, and Founder of America’s Frontline Doctors, offered the following statement in response: “Throughout this pandemic, the AMA has consistently turned its back on scientific rigor, patient experience, and common sense in favor of politicizing medicine to support legally dubious public mandates. As a result, this so-called ‘physicians’ organization’ resembles a reputation-laundering service for embattled Democratic politicians instead of an independent association of trained medical professionals dispensing timely advice. It’s no wonder a majority of Americans have come to doubt the expertise of our purported experts. If the AMA is going to continue to punish schoolchildren and church-goers by lending its diminished credibility to governors Beshear, Murphy, Cuomo, and more, it needs to drop its nonprofit status and admit what this advocacy amounts to: the pseudo-science arm of the Democratic Party.”

Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship to restrict the art of healing to one class of Men and deny equal privileges to others; the Constitution of this republic should make special privilege for medical freedom as well as religious freedom."
