<p id="">A national “school choice” program in the “Big, Beautiful Bill” was signed into law on Independence Day by President Donald Trump, drawing both applause and concerns from conservatives.</p><p id="">Language protecting religious liberty and seeking to restrain government control of private schools was stripped from the legislation before passage.</p><p id="">Supporters argued that the program, even though it was scaled back significantly from the original version passed by the House, will still help some families to choose private schools.</p><p id="">Critics on the left — teachers unions, the legacy media, and Democrats — shrieked about the alleged attack on government education. Among other concerns, they suggested this was calculated to re-direct funds into private and religious education at the expense of government schools.</p><p id="">Opponents on the right, though, had very different concerns. They warned that the scheme would eventually be used to try to control non-government education options. “Choice” programs in other nations such as Sweden, Canada, South Africa, Australia, Belgium, Germany and more have done exactly that. Even some states have moved in that direction. &nbsp; </p><p id="">Under the provisions of the new law, taxpayers who give money to a “scholarship granting organization” certified by the U.S. Treasury will receive a tax credit for the amount contributed. The donation is limited to either $5,000 or 10 percent of income.</p><p id="">Those government-approved “SGOs,” as they are called, are then supposed to grant scholarships to students and families in their states for private education, homeschooling, and other qualified educational expenses. The program is capped at $5 billion — for now. &nbsp;</p><p id="">A similar state-level scheme in Florida routes money through an “SGO” known as “Step Up.” That organization <a href="https://floridapolitics.com/archives/372553-equality-florida-step-up-for-students-team-up-to-provide-lgbtq-awareness-training/" target="_blank" id="">has partnered with a radical anti-Christian LGBTQ+ group to promote sex and gender indoctrination</a> in private education. </p><p id="">The initial version of the “Big, Beautiful Bill” passed by the U.S. House of Representatives would have expanded the new voucher program nationwide. But the version that passed into law requires states to opt in to the program.</p><p id="">That provision, which was inserted by the U.S. Senate, means most Democrat-controlled states will not participate. Writing on social media, U.S. Representative Keith Self said that “leaves blue state students in failing schools with ‘optional’ school choice.”</p><p id="">GOP lawmakers vowed to keep pushing to expand the program more, though. U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, who sponsored the original provision, said enshrining the “first ever federal school choice provision into our nation’s tax code is a major win.”</p><p id="">But more will be done, he promised. “We will continue to advocate for and pass improvements moving forward,” added Cassidy, whose political campaigns have been lavishly funded by Big Pharma and other groups hoping to expand sales of their government-funded schemes into private schools.</p><p id="">Across the conservative Internet and media ecosystem, commentators and lawmakers claimed the original House version would have protected private schools from federal control. But despite some language purporting to limit government meddling, the camel’s nose of government control was certainly going to get under the tent.</p><p id="">As <a href="https://www.freedomproject.com/2025/06/09/tnr6925/" target="_blank" id="">documented by The Newman Report on June 9</a>, the House’s original language would have forced private schools taking the money to obey costly, unconstitutional federal statutes and mandates.</p><p id="">Of particular concern: All participants in the program would have been forced to obey the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA). That will eventually embed Medicaid and “mental health” programs into private education, experts warned.</p><p id="">The UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has long called for offering public funds to private schools in exchange for compliance. In a major report on regulating “non-state education providers,” taxpayer funding was touted as the key mechanism to bring in government control, testing, standards, and more.</p><p id="">Even with the IDEA provision removed, critics still expressed numerous concerns with the measure that passed. Richard Hawkins, who serves as chairman of an umbrella group for ministries involved in Christian education known as the “Christian Education Initiative” (CEI), sounded the alarm about the prospect of government regulation.</p><p id="">As an example, he pointed to President Biden’s decree that any school receiving federal funds had to open girls’ restrooms to males. “With both federal and state controls or potential for controls on ‘private’ education, this is the wrong move, knowing the global-minded elite’s push for control,” the CEI chief told The Newman Report. &nbsp;</p><p id="">“We have so little influence at the federal level to stop bad legislation compared with influence with state legislators,” he continued. “I’m convinced our federal representatives no longer consider us their constituents.… They’re sold out to their major donors.”</p><p id="">Rather than getting the federal government more involved in education, and government more deeply involved with private schools, Congress and America should be moving in the opposite direction.</p><p id="">“Biblically, we need to eliminate civil government intrusion into the family’s duty and responsibility,” said Hawkins, whose organization represents multiple prominent ministries involved in Christian education. “The feds need to get away from all aspects of education from a constitutional stance.”</p><p id="">Even some of the lawmakers and lobbying organizations involved in pushing the measure admitted privately to The Newman Report that they are concerned about the prospect of government regulation. However, they said the benefits would hopefully outweigh the risks.</p><p id="">One of the powerhouses behind the push for government-funded “school choice,” the American Federation for Children, celebrated the measure’s passage. Calling it “a historic moment for America’s families and students,” AFC CEO Tommy Schultz vowed to continue the fight and seek for it to be expanded “as soon as possible.”</p><p id="">Schultz appears to have taken over as lead spokesman after the previous face of the organization, who was listed on the United Nations’ education agency’s website, was outed as a former homosexual porn star.</p><p id="">Funding for the controversial group comes from, among other sources, billionaire heiress Betsy DeVos. She helped save the deeply unpopular Common Core in Michigan and signed an international agreement calling for further “internationalization” of education. Even more alarming, she publicly called for redefining “public education” to include all education, including private schools.</p><p id="">Billionaire population control zealot Bill Gates, another key figure behind Common Core and the Covid hysteria, is another major financier of the government-funded “school choice” movement. He also signed a deal with UNESCO to globalize education prior to his involvement with Common Core.</p><p id="">The heirs to the Walmart fortune have also been a large source of funds for the government-funded “school choice” movement. <p id="">On Wednesday, Baylor University announced it will be returning a sizeable grant from the Eula Mae and John Baugh Foundation after a public backlash.</p><p id="">The foundation had granted the Christian university $643,401 for “academic research aimed at exploring inclusion and belonging in the church, with a particular focus on LGBTQIA+ individuals in congregational settings.” But Baylor University President Linda Livingstone said in a <a href="https://president.web.baylor.edu/news/story/2025/addressing-recent-external-research-grant">statement</a> last week that the university is rejecting the grant in response to “concern and confusion” among its “broader community of churches, partner organizations, and supporters.”</p><p id="">“Please be assured that Baylor’s institutional beliefs and policies remain unchanged,” Livingstone said. “Our commitment to our Christian mission and our historic Baptist identity continues to guide our approach to academics, student life, and spiritual formation. We affirm the biblical understanding of human sexuality as a gift from God, expressed through purity in singleness and fidelity in marriage between a man and a woman.”</p><p id="">Baylor University is only one of the Christian institutions targeted by the Eula Mae and John Baugh Foundation. Created in 1995 by the late Sysco founder and tycoon John Baugh, the foundation openly targets Christian communities with grants aimed at injecting “progressive” ideals.</p><p id="">“The Baugh Foundation supports progressive, inclusive, nonprofit organizations that reflect the love of Christ by providing assistance to those in need, enriching the lives of children and youth, keeping faith communities informed and engaged, and guarding the wall of separation between church and state,” the organization states on its <a href="https://www.baughfoundation.org/fundingpriorities/" id="">website</a>.</p><p id="">The organization disburses roughly $12 million in grants each year. Emphasizing that it defends “freedom of religion, for religion, and from religion,” the foundation says it funds projects that focus on “social justice and advocacy, faith-based journalism, meeting basic human needs, faith-based post-secondary education, inclusivity initiatives, and arts and enrichment.”</p><h2 id="">Baylor and Baugh have been working together for years</h2><p id="">This does not appear to be Baylor University’s first grant from the Baugh Foundation. Last year, the foundation funded a pilot research project called Building Resilient Congregations, which seeks to explore how to work with churches in three areas: “Accompaniment, Trauma Care, and LGBTQ+ Discernment.” Baylor’s Diana R. Garland School of Social Work <a href="https://socialwork.web.baylor.edu/news/story/2024/baugh-foundation-resilient-congregations" id="">spearheaded</a> the project, which seems to have stayed under the radar.</p><p id="">What has also avoided public scrutiny is the fact that Baylor has been <a href="https://socialwork.web.baylor.edu/research-impact/center-church-community-impact-c3i/lgbtq-discernment-guide" id="">working</a> with the Baugh Foundation since 2018 on how to convince churches to adopt “LGBTQ+ inclusion” policies. The grant was awarded to the Center for Church and Community Impact (C³I), which is part of Baylor’s School of Social Work, to help churches make “decisions to be more inclusive in their practices and policies specific to LGBTQ+ persons.” C3I created an “LGBTQ+ Discernment Guide” to help Christian congregations do just that.</p><p id="">‍</p>

<p id="">Twenty-five years of aggressive climate change activism have not impacted how Americans feel about the subject, <em id="">CNN </em>reported on Thursday.</p><p id="">Although scientists have repeatedly <a href="https://www.thegoldreport.com/news/science-groups-debunk-media-assertions-blaming-natural-disasters-on-climate-change" id="">debunked</a> claims about an impending Armageddon driven by global warming, the Left maintains that climate change is an “existential threat” to humanity. The Biden administration considered climate change such an imminent danger that it tried to impose electric vehicle mandates on the country, <a href="https://www.thegoldreport.com/news/john-kerry-climate-change-worse-than-ukraine-war" id="">ranked</a> it worse than the Russo-Ukraine war, and <a href="https://www.thegoldreport.com/news/pentagon-climate-change-may-drive-military-missions" id="">viewed</a> it as a matter of national security. In 2022, the Federal Reserve <a href="https://www.frontline.news/post/federal-reserve-announces-new-climate-exercise-with-six-largest-banks/preview" id="">conducted</a> a “climate scenario” simulation with six of the country’s largest banks to manage “climate-related financial risks.” US Army Secretary Christine Wormuth <a href="https://www.thegoldreport.com/news/us-army-vows-to-fight-climate-change-as-recruitment-plunges" id="">said</a> the Army would make the “war against climate change” a priority. In September, the Democratic Party unveiled <a href="https://www.thegoldreport.com/news/democratic-party-aims-to-push-climate-change-propaganda-in-all-grades" id="">plans</a> to teach “climate literacy” in schools, a euphemism for climate hysteria.</p><p id="">But that climate hysteria may have dissipated with the former administration, according to new figures that show Americans are no more concerned about climate change than they were in 2000.</p><p id="">“Are Americans afraid of climate change? And the answer is, Americans aren’t afraid of climate change,” <em id="">CNN </em>Senior Data Reporter Harry Enten said. “Climate activists have not successfully made the case to the American people. I want you to take a look here. ‘Greatly worried about climate change.’ We have data going all the way back since 1989, and look at it then, it was 35%. In 2000, it was 40%. 2020, 46%. In 2025, 40%, which is the exact same percentage as in 2000. Despite all of these horrible weather events. The percentage of Americans that are greatly worried about climate change has stayed pretty gosh darned consistent.”</p><p id="">Enten added that 32% of Americans “often [or] sometimes worry” about climate change, down from 38% in 2006. Just 17% of Americans—including only 27% of Democrats—think climate change will impact their area.</p><p id="">“Look at this, all adults, it’s just 17%. It’s just 17%. The GOP is 6%, Independents is 16%, even Democrats here, it’s just 27% of Democrats who say that climate change will make it harder to stay in our area,” Enten went on. “And I think this is what’s so important. A poll published in 2023 from the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC) and The Associated Press–NORC Center for Public Affairs Research <a href="https://www.thegoldreport.com/news/americans-losing-steam-on-climate-change-poll-shows" id="">found</a> that 74% of Americans believe “climate change” is happening, but most (51%) don’t believe it is man-made. That’s an 11-point drop from 2018, primarily among Democratic and Independent voters.</p><p id="">The poll also showed that most Americans support the installation of power lines to deliver “renewable energy,” but not for themselves. Most Democrat voters and high-income earners expressed support for high-voltage renewable power lines, but it dropped when they were told the power lines would be built near their own homes. The change was smaller among Republicans, only a minority of whom expressed support for the power lines at all.</p><p id="">But the biggest change was how much Americans are willing to pay for climate change. In 2021, most Americans (52%) said they would be willing to pay a $1 “carbon fee.” Just two years later, that number dropped to 38%. The survey found that support for a carbon fee drops the more energy bills are impacted.</p><h2 id="">Trump admin: ‘It’s nowhere near the world’s biggest problem today’</h2><p id="">In February, Energy Secretary Chris Wright dismissed the widely adopted false narrative that the world is in imminent mortal peril from “climate change.”</p><p id="">“Everything in life has tradeoffs, but a warmer planet with CO2 is better for growing plants. The world has been getting greener for decades – 14% more greenery around the planet today than there was 40 years ago,” Wright told<em id=""> Fox Business</em>, adding that “far more people die of the cold than die of the heat.”</p><p id="">“Everything has a tradeoff, but, yeah, there’s pluses to global warming as well as negatives. But the bottom line is it’s nowhere near the world’s biggest problem today, not even close,” he said.</p><p id="">‍</p>
