<p id="">The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), an influential wing of the Democratic Party, is openly calling to abolish the nuclear family.</p><p id="">The DSA’s over 90,000 members include far-Left lawmakers like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). They also include Islamists like Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for New York City mayor, and Minnesota State Senator Omar Fateh, who recently clinched the Democratic nomination for mayor of Minneapolis.</p><p id="">Last week, the DSA uploaded a video of a panel discussion called “The Left and the Family: A Roundtable,” which took place at its Socialism Conference in Chicago on July 4th. As <em id="">The Post Millennial </em><a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/democratic-socialists-of-america-holds-panel-calling-for-dismantling-of-inherently-repressive-and-racist-nuclear-family" id="">notes</a>, the video’s caption calls the traditional family structure “an inherently repressive, racist, and hetero-sexist institution that functionally reinforces and reproduces capitalism.”</p><p id="">The speakers, all of whom remained masked throughout the discussion, included University of Chicago sociologist Eman Abdelhadi. Abdelhadi praised the rampant single motherhood in Black communities, where as much as 70% of children are born to unmarried mothers and an estimated 64% grow up in single-parent households.</p><p id="">“We can fight for family abolition, we can imagine family abolition, because we have seen Black women do it. Karl Marx called for the abolition of the family in his Communist Manifesto of 1848. Schools in Communist countries like the Soviet Union tried to break up families by encouraging children to snitch on their parents. Hungary, during a brief stint of Communism in 1919, tried to commandeer children using a familiar playbook:</p><p id="">“Special lectures were organized in schools and literature printed and distributed to ‘instruct’ children about free love, about the nature of sexual intercourse, about the archaic nature of bour­geois family codes, about the outdatedness of monogamy, and the irrelevance of religion, which deprives man of all pleasure,” wrote historian Victor Zitta. “Children urged thus to reject and deride paternal authority and the authority of the church, and to ignore precepts of morality.”</p><p id="">‍</p>

<p id="">The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has derailed a Senate bill that would limit surveillance in airports, <em id="">Politico </em><a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/08/03/gop-tsa-tech-senate-cruz-00490397?" id="">reported</a> on Sunday.</p><p id="">In 2023, the TSA launched a pilot program to test facial recognition surveillance systems, which they rolled out to 25 airports. Since then, the agency has unveiled plans to expand these systems to 430 airports within the next decade.</p><p id="">Despite TSA claims that facial recognition screening is not mandatory, the Algorithmic Justice League <a href="https://www.ajl.org/flyreport" id="">reports</a> that half of travelers said they were not made aware the program is optional, and 67% of those who opted out said they encountered issues, such as belligerent TSA agents.</p><p id="">On July 30th, a group of senators introduced the Traveler Privacy Protection Act restricting the use of biometric and facial recognition technology in airports. The legislation was sponsored by Senators Jeff Merkley (R-OR), John Kennedy (R-LA), Roger Marshall (R-KS), and Ed Markey (D-MA).</p><p id="">“No one should be required to have their face scanned to travel, and no government should have the power of a national surveillance system at its fingertips,” said Sen. Merkley in a <a href="https://www.merkley.senate.gov/merkley-statement-on-his-bipartisan-bill-to-rein-in-tsa-facial-recognition-technology-at-airports-nationwide/" id="">statement</a>. “Our Traveler Privacy Protection Act would preserve passengers’ right to use an approved document—like a driver’s license—to travel by air. In addition, it would require signage to inform passengers of that right and protect the data collected from abuse.”</p><p id="">But according to <em id="">Politico</em>, the GOP says the TSA is derailing the bill behind the scenes. When asked whether the agency is trying to torpedo the legislation, Sen. Kennedy said there is no doubt.</p><p id="">“The short answer is yes; the long answer is hell yes,” Kennedy said. “They’re working like an ugly stripper to kill this bill, which tells me we’re doing the right thing.”</p><p id="">Senate Commerce Chair Ted Cruz similarly stated that the TSA is “undoubtedly” working against the bill, and a senior Senate GOP aide said the “smears against [the] bill have TSA’s fingerprints all over it.”</p><p id=""><em id="">Politico </em>says it also reviewed a text message from a TSA official explaining how the agency is opposing the bill, and another from a travel lobbyist confirming that the TSA has “significant concerns” about the legislation.</p><h2 id="">Does the TSA need facial recognition?</h2><p id="">In November, Sen. Merkley led a group of 12 senators in <a href="https://www.thegoldreport.com/news/dhs-audits-tsa-over-facial-recognition-surveillance" id="">urging</a> DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari to investigate the TSA’s use of facial recognition technology. Although the agency claims it needs facial recognition to verify passports, it already possesses technology that can weed out fraudulent passports without the need for facial recognition.</p><p id="">“TSA reportedly plans to introduce next-generation credential authentication technology (CAT) equipped with facial recognition at over 430 airports nationwide,” the senators wrote. “Yet the agency already deploys non-facial recognition devices, known as CAT-1 scanners, which are capable of determining if identification documents are fraudulent. TSA has not provided Congress with evidence that facial recognition technology is necessary to catch fraudulent documents, decrease wait times at security checkpoints, or stop terrorists from boarding airplanes.”</p><p id="">The lawmakers also raised concerns that travelers will be unable to opt out of the surveillance.</p><p id="">“Additionally, despite promising lawmakers and the public that this technology is not mandatory, TSA has stated its intent to expand this technology beyond the security checkpoint and make it mandatory in the future. In April 2023, TSA Administrator Pekoske admitted at the South by Southwest Conference that ‘we will get to the point where we will require biometrics across the board.’ If that happens, this program could become one of the largest federal surveillance databases overnight without authorization from Congress,’ the senators stressed.</p><p id="">In February, Inspector General Cuffari notified the lawmakers that his office was launching an audit of TSA’s use of the technology, though details of the audit have not been revealed. In their original request, the 12 lawmakers asked Cuffari to assess whether the facial recognition technology has been effective, such as identifying cases of fraud or terrorism, through red team testing and other measures.</p><p id="">"Americans don't want a national surveillance state, but right now, more Americans than ever before are having their faces scanned at the airport without being able to exercise their right to opt-out," Merkley said in a statement on Cuffari's letter. "I have long sounded the alarm about the TSA's expanding use of facial recognition . . .&nbsp; I'll keep pushing for strong Congressional oversight."</p><p id="">‍</p>

TSA obstructs bill limiting surveillance

'They’re working like an ugly stripper to kill this bill'

<p id="">President Trump is preparing to sign an executive order that would crack down on financial institutions that shut down customer accounts for holding the wrong views, the <em id="">Wall Street Journal </em><a href="https://archive.is/18BQK#selection-751.175-751.258" id="">reported</a> on Tuesday.</p><p id="">The practice, known as debanking, has primarily targeted conservatives and crypto companies. The executive order will direct financial regulators to investigate such institutions for violating the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, antitrust regulations, or consumer financial-protection laws.&nbsp;</p><p id="">On Tuesday, Trump told <em id="">CNBC </em>that JPMorgan Chase once gave him 20 days to move millions of dollars to another bank, and that Bank of America refused to allow him to open an account to deposit over a billion dollars. Stripe shut down the Trump campaign’s account immediately after January 6, 2021. In her recent memoir, First Lady Melania Trump <a href="https://www.thegoldreport.com/news/bank-denied-accounts-to-trump-family-after-white-house-says-melania" id="">slammed</a> a bank that closed her and her son Barron’s bank accounts after the Trumps were ousted from the White House in 2020.</p><p id="">In May 2022, Chase Bank abruptly closed the account belonging to former U.S. Ambassador Sam Brownback’s National Committee for Religious Freedom (NCRF), a nonprofit aimed at safeguarding freedom for all religions. No transactions had raised any red flags. In 2021, a Chase-owned credit card processor notified the pro-life organization Family Council that “we can no longer support your business” because it was considered “High Risk.” The nonprofit did not meet any of the qualifications for the High Risk category.</p><p id="">WePay, a payment gateway owned by Chase, refused service to a conservative group because it felt its views supported “hate, violence, racial intolerance, [and] terrorism”. In 2021, Chase abruptly closed former Trump National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn’s bank account for “reputational reasons,” <a href="https://www.heritage.org/progressivism/commentary/left-doesnt-just-want-censor-you-social-media-it-also-wants-close-your" id="">according</a> to <em id="">The Heritage Foundation. </em>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p id="">In 2020, Wells Fargo suddenly closed then-Republican Senate candidate Lauren Witzke’s bank account without explanation.&nbsp;</p><p id="">These are just some examples that led to Trump’s public admonition of major banks at the World Economic Forum’s annual summit in Davos in January.</p><p id="">I hope you start opening your bank to conservatives, because many conservatives complain that the banks are not allowing them to do business within the bank, and that included a place called Bank of America,” Trump told Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan, who attended the summit. “They don’t take conservative business. And I don’t know if the regulators mandated that because of Biden or what, but you and [JPMorgan Chase CEO] Jamie [Dimon] and everybody, I hope you’re going to open your banks to conservatives, because what you’re doing is wrong.”</p><h2 id="">Government-sanctioned debanking</h2><p id="">In December, billionaire startup investor Marc Andreessen explained to podcaster Joe Rogan how the federal government engages in debanking.</p><p id="">“We have this thing called the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, CFPB, which is sort of Elizabeth Warren’s personal agency that she gets to control,” said Andreessen. “And it’s an independent agency that gets to run and do whatever it wants, right? And if you read the Constitution, there is no such thing as an independent agency, and yet there it is.”</p><p id="">Andreessen said the CFPB acts on Sen. Warren’s whim and is able to “terrorize financial institutions, prevent new competition, new startups that want to compete with the big banks . . . Just terrorizing anybody who tries to do anything new in financial services.”</p><p id="">“This is where a lot of the debanking comes from, is these agencies,” he continued. “So debanking is when you as either a person or your company are literally kicked out of the banking system.”</p><p id="">The investor explained that agencies like the CFPB allow the federal government to skirt the Constitution:</p><blockquote id=""><em id="">This is where the government and the companies get intertwined. Back to your fascism point, which is, there’s a constitutional amendment that says the government can’t restrict your speech, but there’s no constitutional amendment that says the government can’t debank you, right? And so they, if they can’t do the one thing, they do the other thing, and then they don’t have to debank you. They just have to put pressure on the private company banks to do it. And then the private company banks do it because they’re expected to. But the government gets to say we didn’t do it. It was the private company that did it. And of course JP Morgan can decide who they want to have as customers, because they’re a private company. And so it’s this it’s this sleight of hand that happens it — basically it’s a privatized sanctions regime that lets bureaucrats do to American citizens the same thing that we do to Iran. Kick you out of the financial system. And so this has been happening to all the crypto entrepreneurs in the last four years.
