<p id="">Brazil is destroying swathes of the Amazon rainforest to build a highway for the UN’s COP30 climate conference in November.</p><p id="">The summit will be held in Belém, Pará, where developers are now cutting down large tracts of protected forestry to build a four-lane highway. The road is being built to accommodate the roughly 50,000 attendees expected to attend the conference. Pará authorities are defending the move by saying the road will be “sustainable”—equipped with solar lighting, bike lanes, and wildlife crossings.</p><p id="">But that explanation has not mollified critics who are pointing out the irony of destroying the environment so the rich and powerful can gather to lament the destruction of the environment. And the environment impact is not the only negative effect. Some residents also depend on the rainforest for their livelihood. Claudio Verequete has been supporting his family by harvesting the açaí berries from the trees that have now been felled.</p><p id="">"Everything was destroyed," Verequete said. "Our harvest has already been cut down. We no longer have that income to support our family."</p><p id="">Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, however, says the COP30 summit “will provide an opportunity to focus on the needs of the Amazon, show the forest to the world, and present what the federal government has done to protect it,” <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c9vy191rgn1o" id="">according</a> to the <em id="">BBC.</em></p><h2 id="">Lula: We need a global government to protect the rainforest</h2><p id="">In 2023, Lula called for the formation of a world government to impose climate mandates and suggested the United Nations be outfitted for that purpose. He made the remarks in a broadcast at the start of the Amazon Summit hosted in Belém, Pará, where eight South American countries converged to discuss protection of the Amazon rainforests.</p><p id="">“Brazil has been investing in a new global governance,” Lula announced, explaining that without a global authority, countries will remain sovereign and pass their own laws about climate change. “If you make a decision here in Belém about the climate issue and there isn’t a commitment to comply, it goes back to the national state, and the congresses don’t always approve and then things don’t work,” he said.&nbsp;</p><p id="">“So, we have to have a new global governance. The UN has to be transformed. The UN cannot remain with the same structure that was created in 1945,” Lula added.</p><p id="">‍</p>

Global elite will discuss protection of rainforest at UN climate summit

<p id="">Despite the <em id="">BBC</em>’s claims of commitment to equality, straight White male executives are the least compensated in the company.</p><p id="">Figures in the <em id="">BBC</em>’s 2023/24 annual report <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/03/09/revealed-bbc-pays-diverse-staff-in-top-jobs-higher-salaries/" id="">published</a> in <em id="">The Telegraph</em> reveal that compensation for senior managers follows a social hierarchy. Those who identify as LGBTQ are at the top, receiving 15.6% higher pay than others. They are followed by Black, Asian, and other ethnic minorities, who earn salaries 12.6% higher on average than Whites. Disabled executives earn 8.4% more than their able counterparts, and women earn 5.7% more than men.</p><p id="">“Top tip if you want to earn more at the BBC: don’t be a straight, white male,” said Reform UK Deputy Leader Richard Tice. “People should be appointed and paid based on merit, not on their ethnicity or sexual preference.”</p><p id="">The <em id="">BBC</em> also discriminates against hiring straight White men. The corporation has set company-wide DEI targets of 50% women, at least 20% Black, Asian, or from another ethnic minority, and at least 12% disabled employees.</p><p id="">“Licence fee payers [viewers] will be dismayed by these reverse pay gaps,” said Elliot Keck of the TaxPayers’ Alliance. “[The BBC’s] obsession with diversity, equality and inclusion has resulted in the very discrimination that it was supposed to protect against. The BBC needs to foster a culture of meritocracy, not one of virtue-signalling.”</p><p id="">The <em id="">BBC, </em>however, insists its hiring and compensation are based on merit.</p><p id="">“The BBC is committed to fair and equal pay for all, and all appointments are made on merit,” a <em id="">BBC </em>spokesman said. “An external equal pay audit recently concluded that there was no evidence of systemic bias in our pay approach or policies. We continue to monitor our pay gaps closely and do expect to see small fluctuations year-on-year, and we’d advise against the selective use of figures.”</p><p id="">The spokesman did not explain how 15.6% pay gap is a small fluctuation, nor did he discuss whether the fluctuation ever occurs in the other direction.</p><h2 id="">Network in hot water for Hamas collusion</h2><p id="">The accusations of discrimination come just weeks after the legacy media network attracted scrutiny from British officials for colluding with Hamas on its Gaza documentary.</p><p id="">The <em id="">BBC</em>’s film “Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone” paints Hamas and its supporters as victims of Israel, which is portrayed as a genocidal aggressor even as the Gaza population steadily increases while innocent Israelis remain chained in tunnels amid widespread torture. </p><p id="">The film is narrated by a 13-year-old boy who has since been revealed to be the son of senior Hamas member Ayman Alyazouri. The <em id="">BBC </em>denied the link to Hamas after it was exposed and tried to place the blame on Hoyo Films, the London-based production company that partnered with the <em id="">BBC</em>.&nbsp;</p><p id="">However, the <em id="">Daily Mail’</em>s <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14427577/Was-licence-fee-payers-cash-given-Hamas-Kemi-Badenoch-writes-BBC-boss-demanding-action-Gaza-documentary-scandal.html" id="">review</a> of the <em id="">BBC</em>’s contract with Hoyo Films suggests the network’s claim is false. One of the agreement’s clauses expressly says that “[p]ermission will be sought from the parents’ guardians every time we film with them . . . the producers will act and work as we would in the UK.” Another says: “We will address editorial compliance issues as they arise by having regular updates and phone calls with the commissioning editor.”</p><p id="">Tory leader Kemi Badenoch issued a letter to <em id="">BBC </em>Director-General Tim Davie expressing her shock at the network’s “potential collusion with Hamas” and demanding a full investigation into its pro-Hamas coverage.</p><p id="">“It is now clear to me that you should commission a full independent inquiry to consider this and wider allegations of systemic BBC bias against Israel,” wrote Badenoch. “How could any programme from there be commissioned, without comprehensive work by the BBC to ensure that presenters or participants were – as far as possible – not linked to [Hamas’] appalling regime?” she added.</p><p id="">“Would the BBC be this naive if it was commissioning content from North Korea or the Islamic Republic of Iran?”</p><p id="">Badenoch called on Davie to launch an investigation into the <em id="">BBC</em>’s coverage of the Gaza war, “where Israeli interlocutors are robustly interrogated and Palestinian officials can speak with little challenge.”</p>

<p id="">Dozens of Brits marched in London on Sunday to support those injured by the COVID-19 vaccine.</p><p id="">Sunday was COVID Day of Reflection, a day <a href="https://dayofreflection.campaign.gov.uk/" id="">marked</a> by the British government as “an opportunity to come together to remember those who lost their lives since the pandemic began and to honour the tireless work and acts of kindness shown during this unprecedented time.”</p><p id="">Some, however, observe the day by recalling the atrocities of the COVID-19 pandemic, including inhumane government mandates and a coordinated media fear campaign. A throng of Brits gathered in London on Sunday to demonstrate in solidarity with those injured by the experimental mRNA vaccine. According to data <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/08/17/covid-vaccine-astrazeneca-sick-victims-compensation-scheme/" id="">obtained</a> through Freedom of Information requests, only 175 out of 14,000 people who applied to the British government’s Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS) have <a href="https://www.thegoldreport.com/news/uk-compensates-less-than-2-of-vaccine-victims-new-figures-show" id="">received</a> payments—an approval rate of under 2%.</p><p id="">Since the VDPS was established in 1979, there have been approximately 16,000 claims for compensation for vaccine-related injuries. Over 87% of those have been linked to the COVID-19 vaccine.</p><p id="">Claimants who are approved receive a one-time payment of £120,000 ($158,626). To secure approval, however, claims must include a medical assessment affirming that the vaccine caused the victim’s injury. Given that all official health bodies insist the COVID-19 vaccine is safe, however, such validation is difficult to obtain.</p><p id="">Thousands of alleged vaccine victims have been denied compensation because medical assessors have determined there is not enough evidence to prove the injuries were caused by the shots. Over 500 applicants were turned away before even receiving a medical assessment. Hundreds of other claimants have been rejected because they are “not disabled enough.”</p><p id="">Ninety-seven percent of approved claims were from injuries caused by Britain’s own AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, of which 50 million doses were administered in the UK.</p><h2 id="">‘It doesn’t clear your mortgage’</h2><p id="">Over 50 UK citizens who say they are victims of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine or are relatives of vaccine victims <a href="https://www.thegoldreport.com/news/astra-zeneca-defiant-in-face-off-with-vaccine-victims" id="">insist</a> that the government's £120,000 payment is insufficient to cover damages. They are taking the only other legal action available to them by suing the pharmaceutical giant over their injuries.&nbsp;</p><p id="">“You think £120,000 is massive,” said Claire Bowie, who was one of the few vaccine victims to be awarded compensation. Bowie became paralyzed after taking the AstraZeneca shot in April 2021. “I have been in the civil service all my life, I wasn't used to that money. But the bottom line is it doesn't clear your mortgage and modify your house.”</p><p id="">‍</p>
